She looks and behaves like a puppy and people are always surprised at her advanced age. I have been told this is not good for the coat. The hair goes into folicle shock. Essentially it keeps them warm in the winter, and cool in the summer. Admittedly, you have to get a competent groomer because you do not want to expose the skin to the harshness of the sun. I have clients asking for me to shave down labs, goldens. We call it false coat or coat funk.
Double coated dogs refer to the animals that, like Huskies, have two layers of fur. Our fair-furred goldy friends are prone to allergic dermatitis and hot spots.
